[Central News Agency] NEW YORK - According to a telegram from the United States Information Service on September 6th: The New York Sun announced today, "As the Far East has become increasingly important to the U.S., Stanford University has made plans to expand its Pacific, Asian, and Soviet Union studies courses within its School of Humanities. The Rockefeller Foundation has provided funds for the development of this program, while also covering the travel and research costs for hiring lecturers and various post-war faculty and staff members. The program is set to begin in the fall and will involve Chinese, Japanese, and Malay language research, as well as area studies for China, USSR, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Pacific islands. Stanford dean Mr. Tades will oversee the program, and a degree will be awarded upon completion of all program courses."
